While Sauron is the great evil and literal all-seeing eye in Lord of the Rings, Lodoss War's Karla the Grey Witch is decidedly more subtle. Giving her more to do than her bow-wielding counterpart, and perhaps making her a lead, could set a Lodoss War series apart from the male-dominated fantasy landscape. Her control of elemental magic and role as the series' heart puts her a step above Legolas in terms of personality. Like an earlier paternity suit, it was an exercise dreamed up by studio chief, Louis B. Gable was adopted by the ‘Sewing Circle’ – the group that included Jean Harlow and, ironically, Carole Lombard, the great love of his life.īret also reveals how Gable’s wartime ‘heroics’, which saw him promoted through the ranks from Private to Major in less than a year, were no more than an elaborate publicity stunt. Clark Gable was perceived as the archetypal Hollywood superman, the kind of man that women lusted after and their husbands envied. ![]() ![]() ![]() Why these stories?Well, why short stories at all?
